Quidditch!

Today... I joined the quidditch club.  Yes.  It will be great.  Or at least I'm hoping it will be.  I can't not be a HP nerd. It's physically impossible! But I'm excited!

Decorating

My room is pretty much void of decorations.
The "decorations" are mostly practical things.
My Toms flag has turned into a little spot in
my room that makes me smile whenever I see it.

-Toms are my life.  Pretty much.  They're so great
and the Toms mission is a wonderful one.  I wish one
day to intern or at least participate in a shoe drop.

-Top left corner: "I Yust Don't Give a Hoot!" Button.
I found this cute little guy at my grandma's house.
Treasure forever.

-Top right corner: My cute little erlenmeyer flask
that my friend made me to make me feel included
in door decorations that I'm missing since I'm off
campus.

-Bottom right corner: Barack to the future! I feel that
this will be fitting in a year. I'm not terribly political but...
he deserves the chance to finish what he's started.

-Bottom left corner: STC 2011.  Well I guess it
just becomes even more official everyday. And last
but not least: I Love HOBY! It's true.  I can't hide
it nor do I want to!

Sundays

I love Sundays for so many reasons. I will now spew a list at you to share my excitement of today.

-Church! I've found a new home!
-Coffee
-Listening to MPR (especially A Prairie Home Companion)
-The Economist
-General lazing around.

You may say that I can do this any day but these things have been a part of my Sunday ritual.
Not all of these always happen but when they do, I can't help but smile.  Do you have any
little things that can't help but make you smile?

Apparently This is Real Now

Last night, I made this cute little guy.  He's soft and fluffy.  I guess it means that my new mascot is for real.  This is where I go to school now.  Honestly, the last week was such a whirlwind that I don't even remember half of the details.  But that's okay with me.  It was a good week.  Busy but good.   I'm meeting new friends.  That's something to be proud of isn't it? And if all else fails, I have this little guy.

Lunch

I would like to thank my loving grandmother for helping me make empenadas for my freezer.  Thanks to her I have a quick lunch! Hooray. Best lunch ever.

First Day of School!

First day of school.  Holy cow, where did that come from?
It was good though, I managed to find everything and not look like an eager freshman.  After a long day of classes, I was in need of a nap.  I feel like I just took the best nap I've ever taken.  Totally looking forward to all of the exciting days to come.

Ponder that and how you can be more open

Beautiful People, Beautiful Things, Beautiful Places.

The weekend was once again filled with fantastic things.

I found the wonderful Sandy for a Twins game at the gorgeous Target Field (woot) and Tea Garden adventures followed by the farmers market the next day!

And I found some more outstanding people at the HOBY Picnic! There's no way I'd ever be able to survive without HOBY now that it is in my life for good.

Judging a Book by Its Cover or Its Pictures

I found out today that there is a common
reading assignment for school.  By the
way, I have to have it read by Sunday at
10 am.  Stupid.  Well okay, great in theory
but why didn't I know about it? I picked
it up today.  This book just doesn't seem
like a book that college students would
choose to read.  But I guess that it has
good theories and morals behind it.  I'm
just struggling to start because it has
pictures in it! I can't remember the last
time that I read a book with pictures.
I better start reading.  Wish me luck!

Fort Childhood

I remember those lazy summer days when my older siblings would babysit or grandparents, and we'd build forts in the living room.  This fort is smaller than I remember ours being, but I'm sure that's also because I have grown.

I realized after building this fort today, that there are always openings and closings.  In a way, for me, it's like life.  We're constantly going through tunnels and there are open spaces and closed spaces.  Sometimes, I wonder where my open and closed spaces are.  But after watching such a precious little girl wander through toady, I learned that you don't NEED to know, they just come.

Here's to your openings and closings and learning where your are supposed to be each day!

The Last Few Days

The last few days before school starts have involved going home for a wedding, seeing family and friends, and reading.  It has been so nice to just hang out and read.  It has been so long since I was able to read.  In high school, I always had to deal with reading for class and I don't expect that to change in college but I know that these last few days are totally worth being able to sit down and read.  What have you been reading lately?

Today

Today was spent babysitting an adorable 1 1/2 year old.  Short attention spans are what living the life of a 1 1/2 year old is all about.  I feel like the goal is to tire out the babysitter as much as possible.  But, I did find one thing that kept us busy for an hour: the piano.  It was great.  The demo button kept her going for so long.  What would I have done without it?

My New Digs

Moving is easy when the color of your room is your choice, you don't have someone else to keep in mind all the time when packing and you can move stuff around just the way you like.  Granted, I was a little worried that the colors were too "little girlish" but they aren't, at least I don't think so! :) If you want to come visit, let me know! I enjoy visitors.

The weekend before

The weekend before I moved, which was last weekend, my wonderful mother took my sister and I on a Girltime Getaway.  (If you don't know what they are, go here).  It was super fun and nice to be relaxed for the weekend with each other.  Marci and Michelle happen to be great friends of the family so a lot of time was also spent with them.  Anyway, the destination was a Twins game.  It was hot, but fun to be outside and again to be together.  It had been a long time since the three of us got to spend time together.  It was definitely needed.

Steak 'n Shake {Guest Starring...}

Summer of 2009

Summer of 2010

Summer of 2011

Normally Robin would be writing on her blog, but today I (Mikayla) am writing it for her.
So we've been wearing these silly Steak and Shake hats three years in a row now.  It all started when Robin made me (emphasis on the MADE ME!) take a picture in one of these hats.  Being the good friend that I am I took the picture with her...hoping it wouldn't end up on facebook or anywhere else, but of course they ended up there!  Anyway, this year I picked up two hats to keep this silly tradition going and hopefully it'll continue into the future!

Unexpected Beauty

In addition to soaking up friends and family time,
I'm also soaking up the "scenery" of home.
Granted, I live in town so there isn't a whole
lot of scenery but Mom's plants are looking
great (for the most part).  I love this dahlia! It's
vibrant and reminds me to appreciate how just one
small thing can brighten the day!

Biggest check ever.

Yesterday, I wrote the biggest check ever: my tuition check.  It was so large, I didn't know how to punctuate it! I have been trying to soak up the last few days with friends and family.  I know I have said how much I want to leave here but, it's harder and harder to think about not seeing the same people on a daily basis.  So, sorry for not giving everyday the photograph it deserves.  Bare with me.  I'll get there eventually!
For your viewing pleasure, here is an opportunity to send this little envelope some good vibes as it travels to school to pay my bill!

about them and that you NEED to listen
to them, at least for a little bit. 89.3

This is totally true! So why not make

Impatient Anticipation

I'm finally basically ready for the move next week! I'm extremely proud of how little  I managed to pack up.  This is it along with ten hanging items, my bike and two tubs that are already there.  It is crazy to think that I won't be at my house everyday soon.  I'm not quite sure how to cope yet.  Here's to anticipation!
